Photo Shoot – Awawas Espadrilles
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Feb.16, 2011, under News, Portfolio, Product, Studio
Bennita from AWAWAS just collected her CD of product images I shot for her. What a cool, fun range of hand made Espadrilles. Thanks Bennita for an enjoyable shoot!
Bennita and her team of ladies make them right here in the Kyalami area of Johannesburg. The sole is made from hemp (no, you can’t smoke your shoes!) and there are funky colours and now ethnic African patterns to suit everyone. She says they are very popular especially with her local South American clients who buy a few pairs every couple of months for themselves and family. They are sold in various boutique stores in Gauteng and cost under R400-00 a pair. Contact her on +27 +72 189 9968 (local 072 189 9968) or at bennita [@] awawas [dot] co [dot] za and say you saw the shoes on Photocommission.com!

Thirstland
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Dec.13, 2010, under eShop, Landscape, Park, Portfolio, Print for Sale, Road Trip, Sunrise / Sunset
Taken recently at the Karoo National Park, South Africa near Beaufort West.
A very dry and desolate area. This shot taken just after sunset, 3 images bracketed and blended.
WBF Shoot – Silverstar Casino
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Sep.11, 2010, under eShop, Events, Portfolio, Portrait, Print for Sale, Studio
Did a shoot at one of the World Bodybuilder Federation’s comps at Silverstar Casino, Mulderstrift. Thanks Richard (SnapAfrica) and Chaz (EVOX) for the opportunity! Thanks also to Vanessa (Silverstar) for your hospitality and Andre (SilverStar) for your teams eagle eyes!
I setup a mini-studio with backdrop, strobes, off camera flash, triggers and umbrella to shoot some of the contestants full length as well as a few stage shots from a distance. Here are a few shots of these sculpted athletes. Note: They are very bronzed thanks to the special gold cream they use all over their bodies. Not because of gold umbrellas!

Japanese Ornamental Plum
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Sep.10, 2010, under Camera Café, eShop, Flowers and Plants, General, IPIP, Photo Competitions, Portfolio, Print for Sale
I’ve recently started taking part in camera clubs again. The last time was probably in the mid ’80s! This shoot will be for Camera Café or IPIP or both.
It seems that with the age of digital a lot more people are in the game, and what’s especially great to see is youngsters out there shooting some amazing work as well. Here’s a pic I am working on for the next submission. Reasonable but the composition is off, especially the 2nd smaller twig in the BG, so I doubt I’ll submit this. I’ll do another this w/e before the tree sheds it’s flowers. I have one week window each year with this tree before the petals fall…
Shot with the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG for Nikon.
SAAF SAAB Gripen C #14 – Take Off
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Aug.18, 2010, under Arms/Military/Weapons, Digital Photo Challenge, eShop, Events, Portfolio, Print for Sale, Road Trip
Another shot taken on 14/08/2010 with a 1996 Sigma 170-500mm f/5-6.3 APO Aspherical for Nikon.
It is not one of these new wonder lenses with VR, OS or IS Image Stabilisation.
The shot was panned by hand, no Tripod or Monopod or Gimbal.
Sometimes you just can’t beat old glass and good technique…

Cheugnette – SAR 19D #2650 – 2
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Aug.09, 2010, under Events, Portfolio, Print for Sale, Road Trip
Isn’t she beautiful….! 4am-10am photo shoot with Camerastuff to Capital Park Pretoria and Friends of the Rail who unstintingly restore and maintain a few of what’s left of our National Heritage Steamers in their private capacity with no government and very little private sector funding. I am happy to pay a measly R150-00 for a mornings shoot. FOTR were very accommodating, running Engine 2650 back and forth so that about 60 of us could get some awesome shots.
Thanks to our culture-less management at Transnet who have taken over 15 years to finally wake up and “might” now begin pushing restoration and preservation work for steam tourism. A bit late, as over 90% of our steamers have been plundered and turned into scrap at various grave yards around the country.
Shot with a Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG for Nikon
