South AfriCan
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Nov.05, 2011, under Digital Photo Challenge, eShop, Planes, Portfolio, Print for Sale, Road Trip, Transportation
Thought I’d do a motivational poster. Hope it pulls the heart strings about your country! Humans need good news. Discover South Africa. A world in one Country.
The Gautrain Project took 4 years to complete. It is a world class 80km new rail link between Pretoria and Johannesburg and our International Airport and Sandton hewn from virgin ground with many underground sections through some of the hardest rock and under existing cities. No-one believed this African country could do it. We did.
I love trains and train travel and have been collecting Märklin since the late 70′s.

Chinese Dancer – 9/200 on DP Review
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on May.07, 2011, under DP Review, eShop, Portfolio, Portrait, Print for Sale
I’ve only just started posting to DP Review and am quite excited to have one of my images achieve a top 10 (9th out of 200 entries) in a very short space of time. Candid portraiture is a speciality and favourite photographic subject of mine, especially at events I shoot.
The winner of the competition was another South African, Joggie Van Staden with “Joyfull”. Well done Joggie! Classic portrait and wonderful emotion.

Riveting

Shot at the South African National Museum of Military History (14/11/2010)
There is a lot of clutter around this aircraft, so in order to not get buildings and other displays crowding the shot I chose to shoot from below into the sky. The clouds were perfect to add a little drama and interest.
This aircraft Delivered to the USAAF on 11 January 1945 as 43-49838 and now SAAF 6850

Boer War Memorial (1899-1902)
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Nov.30, 2010, under Architecture, Digital Photo Challenge, eShop, Photo Competitions, Portfolio, Print for Sale
I did a lot of work in adjustment layers to emphasise the ominous cloud and light up the statue. I wanted to portray the feeling of gloom and despair of war in this image.
Image taken at the South African National Museum of Military History, Johannesburg.
I dedicate this image to all the people who died during the Second Boer War, 1899-1902, mostly wives and children of Boers captured by the English and placed into a new English prison system, the concentration camp.
And now to the 3rd Boer War, that since a “democratic” South Africa in 1994 and ANC Government, over 1600 1700 farmers in South Africa have been systematically murdered (figure excludes their families, often also murdered at the same time).
Some are calling it boer genocide.
This image achieved a top 10 (9th) at DPChallenge for a Military Challenge Shot
