Lilac-breasted Roller – Coracias caudatus
by Harvey G (Photocommission.com) on Jul.27, 2010, under 1. At Flickr, 2. Other sites, eShop, Portfolio, Print for Sale, Road Trip, Wildlife
A common Roller species, they are reasonably easy to photograph, once you get one that hangs around for more than 30 seconds. They love to sit high up in a shrub with few leaves or a dead tree seeking grasshoppers, butterflies or anything else tasty. This shot was taken in July, our winter when they aren’t as colourful as in summer.
Shot with a Sigma 170-500mm f/5-6.3 APO Aspherical for Nikon

Eyjafjallajökull glacier Volcano – Iceland – Photo Op

Whilst the UK and various EU countries have grounded air travel, photographers are smiling all the way to their digital homes with the amazing photo opportunities it brings. Watch European photographers emerging images of the ash clouds, sunsets, lava and fireworks as they upload them to Flickr. Some crazier than others of course! (See pic below!)
We get these red sunsets all the time in Africa ![]()

I joined the Flickr Mirror Reflex Lens & Catadioptric/Mirror Lens groups a short while ago. Some amazing work by the group’s members. Well done on breaking down the misconceptions! Below are a few images from them…awesome!
Read my initial review on the Vivitar Series 1 DX 500mm f/6.3 here with supporting images.
Click on any of the images to see the full size originals. There’s a great group of photog’s with advice and tips on getting that sharp, colourful, shallow DOF long range image with your mirror. Dust off your old mirror, or get a new reflex mirror lens here and then go shoot!
I hope to see some new members and images flaunted there!
